The short version
- GoBag Preppers has no accounts and no servers. We don't collect, store or sell your personal data.
- Everything you enter stays in a database on your phone.
- To fetch alerts, look up barcodes and search for places, your phone contacts public services directly, and sends only what each request needs.
- There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking in the app.
This policy covers the GoBag Preppers app for iOS and Android (the "app") and this website. In this policy, "we" and "us" means the developer of GoBag Preppers.
Data stored on your phone
The app stores what you enter in a local database on your device. This can include:
- Bags, checklists and supplies, including expiry dates, quantities and notes.
- Your In Case of Emergency (ICE) card, such as name, blood type, allergies, medications, medical conditions and emergency contacts.
- Household members, meeting points (including GPS coordinates), routes and utility shut-off notes.
- Alert areas you save, such as home, work or school, and the alerts the app has fetched.
- Reminders and app settings.
This data never reaches us. We can't see it, recover it or delete it for you. Uninstalling the app deletes it from your phone, unless your phone's own system backup (such as iCloud or Google device backup) has kept a copy under your account.
What the app sends, and to whom
Some features need fresh information from the internet. Your phone makes these requests directly to the services below. They are not routed through us. Each request includes your IP address, as all internet requests do, and a User-Agent that names the app and its version. Each service handles that data under its own privacy policy.
| Service | When | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| U.S. National Weather Service | Checking weather alerts | The coordinates being checked (your current location or a saved alert area), rounded to 4 decimal places (about 11 m). |
| USGS Earthquake Hazards | Checking earthquake alerts | Nothing about you. The app downloads the worldwide feed and filters it on your phone. |
| GDACS (EU / UN) | Checking global disaster alerts | Nothing about you. The app downloads the worldwide feed and filters it on your phone. |
| Open Food Facts | Scanning a product barcode | The barcode number. |
| OpenStreetMap Nominatim | Searching for a place or address | The text you typed in the search box. |
| RevenueCat, Apple, Google | Buying or restoring Pro Plus | See Purchases. |
Alerts can be checked in the background. When they are, the same requests are made without the app being open.
When you tap a link that opens another app, such as Maps, your browser or the phone dialer, that app's own privacy policy applies.
Permissions
The app asks for permissions only when you use a feature that needs them. You can say no, and the rest of the app keeps working.
- Location (while using the app): to check alerts near you, show the emergency number for where you are, add your position to an SOS message and save meeting points. The app doesn't ask for "always" location access. Background alert checks use the last location the app saved on your phone.
- Camera: to scan barcodes. Images are processed on your phone and are not stored or sent.
- Photos (add only): to save your ICE card as an image you can use as a lock-screen picture. The app can't read your photo library.
- Notifications: for alerts and reminders. These are scheduled on your phone.
- Flashlight: for the flashlight and SOS strobe.
When you send an SOS or share your ICE card, the app opens your phone's share sheet. Nothing is sent until you pick an app and a recipient and send it yourself.
Purchases
Pro Plus is a one-time in-app purchase handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment details.
We use RevenueCat to check whether Pro Plus is unlocked. RevenueCat receives an anonymous ID created by the app, your purchase receipt from Apple or Google, and basic device information such as platform, app version and country. It does not receive your name, email or anything you enter in the app. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Backups, PDFs and sharing
Pro Plus can create a backup file. Before it leaves the app, the backup is encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a key derived from your password with Argon2id. A small unencrypted header records details such as the backup date, so the app can show them before you enter the password. You choose where to save the file. We never receive your password or your backup, and we can't recover a lost password.
PDFs (wallet cards, family plan, emergency binder), QR codes and anything else you share are created on your phone and are not encrypted. Once you share them, they are handled by whatever app or person you send them to.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or tracking scripts, and loads no third-party fonts or scripts. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) for security and reliability.
Children
The app isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone. Because data stays on the device, we hold no information about any user, including children.
Your choices and rights
You control your data in the app. You can edit or delete any item, and uninstalling removes everything. You can turn off location, camera or notification access in your phone's settings at any time.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or California law), you may have rights to access or delete personal data. We don't hold personal data about app users, so in most cases there is nothing for us to return or delete. For purchase records, contact Apple, Google or RevenueCat. We'll gladly help if you have a question.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll mention it in the app's release notes.
